Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014
has a lovely pale yellow. Tropical melon and pineapple aromas, passion fruit and lifted citrus tempt your senses. A mouth-filling wine packed with fruit sweetness balanced by mouth-watering acidity and a fresh, zesty, lingering finish.
The grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the evening and overnight to preserve flavour and pressed immediately with minimal skin contact. Each block was kept separate throughout the various stages of the winemaking process. Fermentations were carried out at low temperatures and when all tanks had completed fermentation they were proportionately blended, fined, stabilised and bottled as can be tasted in Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014.
Beautiful spring weather and near perfect conditions during flowering resulted in one of the earliest and potentially largest harvests on record. In mid-March, Fijian cyclone Lusi made a brief appearance bringing an inch of rain and a stiff breeze but harvest resumed a couple of days later with Sauvignon Blanc being picked on warm, sunny days in April.
Kim Crawford Wines was established in late 1996, when Kim launched a range made from fruit grown in the South Island. Kim sold the company to Constellation in 2005 and has since handed the winemaking reins over to the Constellation winemaking team. Control over grape supply has always been essential for this range and Constellation has maintained good contacts with growers in the region, ensuring consistency of quality and style.
The grapes were selected from vineyards in Marlboroughs Wairau Valley and the neighbouring Awatere Valley. Fast draining, alluvial loams over gravelly sub soils in these valleys provide ideal growing conditions for Sauvignon Blanc. Individual blocks were targeted for their strengths and overall contribution to the blend. The vines ranged in age from 18 months to 15 years bringing a mix of youthful vigour and depth of flavour.
